The Wandering Sheep

God’s grace for me and others often blows my mind. There are so many times and ways that I want to do my own thing without considering Him. When I go way out on the limb, He doesn’t stay far removed on His throne but searches for me. He stands at the door of my heart and knocks. When I let Him in, He scoops me up, forgives me for my sin, and sets my feet on a steady and sturdy path. He doesn’t do this because I deserve it; I don’t. It’s not that I’m special. I’m not. It’s just because He’s my Savior, and I asked Him to be my Shepherd. He doesn’t let sheep wander off over cliffs or in areas where they can get devoured. Today’s poem concerns the wandering sheep and how God deals with us in the most loving and restorative way.

"He told them this parable. “Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep, and lost one of them, wouldn’t leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one that was lost, until he found it? When he has found it, he carries it on his shoulders, rejoicing. When he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance.
