We have all experienced the rejection and heartwrenching pain of being passed over for something we wanted. It could have been for a job, promotion, a team, or even relationally. That experience tell us that we weren’t good, desirable, or worthy enough to be picked. Being passed over in some ways is actually positive. It can be a blessing when trouble, disaster, and death pass us by. Jesus was the fulfillment of the Passover lamb. Jesus’ supreme act of love not only saved us from eternal death, but this sacrifice provided us with acceptance and healing from the pains and sorrows of this world.
“For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
Easter Fulfillment
Easter fulfilled the Passover that originated in ancient Egypt. When the angel of death saw the lamb’s blood on the doorposts, he passed over the ones inside. Jesus became that perfect sacrificial lamb for us all. We can apply the blood on the doorposts of our hearts by accepting His blood sacrifice for our sins. After three death-darkened days, He rose again. It’s a picture of what will happen to us one day.
“Death, where is your sting? Hades, where is your victory? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:55-57
We Can Count on Blessings
We will experience the pain of being passed over on this earth. However, we can always count on the blessing of His blood to save us from our sins and shortcomings. As Easter and Passover close on this day, let’s take a moment to pray and thank Him for His sacrifice and for His resurrection, which demonstrated God’s ability to give us new life.
“But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” Romans 8:11
Prayer
Thank you, Jesus, for being my Passover lamb as you shed your blood for my sins and shortcomings. Help me live in a way that honors this mighty act of love you did on my behalf.
