It was a day like any other on the far side of the desert. Moses was watching his sheep when something caught his attention. A lone bush was on fire, but something was strange: although the flames continued to burn, the bush was not consumed.
“So Moses said, ‘I must turn away from the flock and see this great sight—why the bush is not burned up.’ When the Lord saw that he turned away from the flock to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, ‘Moses, Moses!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’” Exodus 3:3–4 AMP
The Turning
One thing that stood out to me was that God called to Moses after Moses “turned away from the flock” to investigate the burning bush.
I think there is a message in this for us. Sometimes, we need to turn away from everything competing for our attention and become curious about what God is doing.
When we turn away from the distractions of the world and turn toward Him, we make room to hear His voice.

The Poem
I wrote this poem a few years ago about Moses’ first experience at Mount Horeb.
As you read it, remember that God has something to say to you and me. We need to turn away from the world long enough to become curious and be still enough to hear from our wonderful and mighty God.
