Scripture reminds us that we are in the world but not in the world. As residents of this world, we experience everything it has to offer. We have joy, happiness, prosperity, tragedy, and sorrow. No one is immune to trouble or trial. We’ve all been thinking about the tragedy of the Los Angeles fires. Many people still don’t know if their houses have been burned after mandatory evacuations of the area. Waiting on bad news is probably the most brutal way to wait. We can take comfort in this: God is there with us to comfort us. He is with us as we wait. He walks with us through tragedy and helps us heal. He is ever faithful to be there with us. As we pray for the many people in L.A., let’s also remember those who just had scans and are also waiting on possible difficult news. God is there through the wait, and He is there through the fire.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.” Isaiah 43:2
