There are seasons in life when we find ourselves carrying more than God wants us to bear. Trials and troubles weigh on us, but the emotions can push us over the edge. Disappointment, anger, shock, grief, fear, regret, and uncertainty can pile upon our shoulders until we feel weighed down and exhausted. We replay conversations, second-guess decisions, and wonder how life became so difficult. In those moments, God wants us to do something that does not come naturally: He asks us to bring our burdens to Him.
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22 NKJV
Lay It Down
The cross is not only a symbol of salvation; it is also where we can lay down the things crushing our hearts. We can bring Jesus our battles, questions, failures, and emotions. Nothing is too heavy, messy, or complicated for Him. When we surrender our burdens, we are admitting that we cannot carry them alone and trusting the One who already carried the weight of our sin.
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6–7 WEB
Refuse the Shame
One of the enemy’s greatest tactics is to keep us trapped in shame. He reminds us of our mistakes and failures, convincing us that we must somehow earn God’s forgiveness. Scripture teaches the opposite. God’s grace is a gift, and Jesus has already paid the price for our sins. We do not have to earn the mercy He freely offers. When we feel shame, it is the devil’s work in our lives.
When we come to God humbly, confess our sins, and surrender our burdens, we find forgiveness, peace, and direction. The circumstances around us may not change immediately, but something within us does. The weight becomes lighter because we are no longer carrying it alone.

You Can Trust the Next Step
The future often feels uncertain because we cannot see what lies beyond the next bend in the road. Yet God never asks us to understand the entire journey. He simply asks us to trust Him with the next step. As we travel unfamiliar roads, we can choose to seek His face instead of focusing on our fears.
Seeking His face means pursuing His presence above everything else. It means trusting His character when we do not understand His plan and believing that the One who saved us will also guide us.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5–6 ESV
