Ask, Seek, Knock — And Remember
God longs to give us good things. Matthew 7:11 makes that clear, and Matthew 7:7 gives us a powerful tool:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” —Matthew 7:7
We tend to notice whatever sits in the front of our minds. During my cancer journey—through diagnosis, scans, hard choices, chemo, surgery, and radiation—songs and scriptures became my lifeline. Each stage seemed to have a theme, and those themes were marked by songs that became my anthems.
One of the first was Oceans. It carried me through loneliness and reminded me of God’s posture toward me, as well as the miracles—big and small—He worked in my heart, mind, and body during the hardest days.
The Joshua Memorial
In Joshua 3–4, God parted the Jordan River so His people could cross. Joshua set up 12 stones as a memorial, so future generations would remember what God had done.
“These stones are a permanent memorial for the people of Israel.” —Joshua 4:7
Memorials aren’t just for honoring the dead—they’re for remembering God’s goodness in our lives. I have my own “stones”: journals, psalms, poems, and songs that mark His kindness during my cancer journey.
Today’s anthem for me is The Goodness of God by Bethel Music. Every time I hear it, I’m reminded of moments when God showed up—times that could have been overshadowed by fear, but instead shine as proof of His faithfulness. Even if my story had ended differently, those miracles would still stand as evidence of His goodness.
Building Your Own Memorial
Sometimes, we carry reminders of our worst experiences—memorials to pain instead of God’s power. But God wants to heal us from those torments. Just as He guided Joshua to gather stones as a witness to His deliverance, He can help us build memorials of hope today.
Ask Him for a song, a verse, or a tangible way to mark His work in your life. Whether you’re in the middle of hardship or looking back on it, remember: He loves you, He will never leave you, and He is always good.
“So that everybody on earth would recognize how strong God’s rescuing hand is, and so that you would hold God in solemn reverence always.” —Joshua 4:24
