Today We Pray

“First of all, then, I urge that petitions (specific requests), prayers, intercessions (prayers for others) and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all people, for [a]kings and all who are in [positions of] high authority, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This [kind of praying] is good and acceptable and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,”

1 Timothy 2:1-3

Modern Day Kings

1 Timothy speaks of praying for kings, but today’s kings are leaders and people who have control over our lives. Maybe I don’t need to tell you, but we need to be in prayer. The world is in a precarious situation, but we can be sure of one thing. We will be touched by what happens in the world, but if we are his, we live in the land of Goshen. (see Exodus 8) We live with one figurative foot in the spiritual realm while the other is in this world. We are not untouched, but we are also not destroyed.

But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people dwell, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.[a] 23 Thus I will put a division[b] between my people and your people. Tomorrow this sign shall happen.”

Exodus 8:22-23

We Are in Goshen

Moses instructed the people of God in Goshen to put the sacrificial lamb’s blood on their doorposts the night judgment came to the Egyptians. The Angel of Death passed by those doors with the blood. We live in Goshen; let’s seek God and make a choice to obey him, find those areas on which we need to place the blood. Let’s pray for our leaders; no matter how we feel about them, we serve a God who can work miracles. Let’s pray for one another and our world, especially our brothers and sisters in Ukraine tonight, pray for the Russian people too and the leaders who are making decisions on the world stage.

you shall say, ‘It is the sacrifice of the Lord’s Passover, for he passed over the houses of the people of Israel in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians but spared our houses.’” And the people bowed their heads and worshiped.

Exodus 12:27

Poetry

The poem below is about those areas that are so difficult to release to God, but they might be the very areas that hold us in our pain, that keep us trapped. It’s written as if God was speaking. I hope you like it. Pray it over our leaders as well.

From Jesus

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
