The Sound of a Message

Stanza #7

Have you ever wondered why God decided to send Jesus as a baby? The way He chose to step from heaven to the earth was a message of grace to us. Jesus came to us as the most approachable human form on earth, a baby. He used these specific methods to appear, live, and die to reveal just how much He reaches out for us. God’s other message throughout the Old and New Testaments is, “Do not be afraid.”

10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for [f]all the people. 11 For this day in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (the Messiah).

Luke 2:10-11

Not the Privledged Few

His very choice to send the angels to bear the message of His advent was a radical statement. The announcement of Jesus’ birth wasn’t given to the rich, powerful, and famous. Priests, religious leaders, or kings and queens didn’t get a visit by the angel. He came to humble shepherds, who didn’t feel entitled to His grace, favor, or forgiveness. He comes to us in our need, not in our entitlement. It doesn’t get any clearer than that.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

What Makes Us Worthy?

A person can give billions, and it will never erase their guilt. Nothing we can do can make us worthy to stand before a Holy God. We can give our lives in service, all of our money, and feel the pain of remorse and guilt, but none of that makes us worthy. If it did, Jesus wouldn’t have had to suffer and die. When we feel bad, we are in the perfect position to receive His gift of grace. The message is one of unconditional love and the power of truth. We aren’t good enough, but that’s okay; the gift of God made us good enough through Christ’s sacrifice. It’s free to us all.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23

The Messages

God is a gifted, brilliant multitasker. The messages He sent run throughout his story in the Bible. He comes to meet us where we are, He doesn’t want us to fear, You don’t have to be rich or powerful to receive Him, (that sometimes makes it harder) and we can’t do anything to earn the free gift of salvation given to us as the greatest gift. We only need to open it and receive it.

“He comes with an offer to me and you,
A message of love seasoned with truth.
Will we open our hearts to the Heavenly Babe
And receive the gift, God willingly gave?”
