The Sound of Freedom

The Holy Sound, Stanza #2

Heaven’s Mighty deliverer and King entered the earth as a helpless infant, reliant on humans to care for him. Mary was just a teenager, and Joseph wasn’t much older than her. The tiny hands of an infant held the seeds that would grow to embrace freedom’s tree; a wooden cross. This was God’s sweet, gentle yet powerful plan for our freedom and forgiveness.

“Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him (Jesus) everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.”

Acts 13:36-39

No Condemnation

Myriam Webster’s dictionary defines freedom as “The ability to move or act freely.” We each have something that is holding us back in our lives. Maybe we’ve asked and even begged God to remove our fetters, that keep us bound. God planted the seeds for our freedom in the earth nearly 2000 years ago. Simply by living life, we encounter pain, disappointment, betrayal, and many other trials. We build up walls of defense or responses that eventually become our prison. Even when we get free, there is always something that causes us to fall. We don’t need to worry; God’s purpose in coming to the world wasn’t to condemn us but to save us.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

John 3:17

Sacrifice

When we allow God to share in the hardships and pain, He can make something beautiful. There is no freedom from or forgiveness of sin without payment. Only God has the power to forgive our sins and deliver us from everything that binds us. Jesus came as a tiny lamb, that would grow into the “Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world,” as proclaimed by John the Baptist. In our celebrations, let’s remember the gift of freedom that God so willingly gave to us in His Son.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you[b] free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death”

Romans 8:1-2

“A faint, distant sound of an infant babe,

Was God’s prescription for sin’s escape.

Few knew the joy of that beautiful gift;

As the cry of freedom rang in their midst.
