Mercy Flows

Sometimes when we mess up, it’s hard to forgive ourselves. But God wants us to remember Romans 5:8—that while we were still sinners, Jesus died for us. His love for us was never dependent on our holiness, perfection or works.

“But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

By Grace

Ephesians 2 reminds us of God’s great mercy. It’s by grace we’re saved—something we can’t take credit for. But if we stop reading at verse 9, we miss our on the treasure in verse 10. When we surrender our lives to Him—our choices, our paths, even our thoughts—we become His workmanship. The purpose of this? It’s to walk in good works—the ones He’s already prepared for us. Grace doesn’t just save us; it transforms us to live out God’s goodness in the world.

But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.” Ephesians 2:4-5, 9-10

We Change

When we receive His mercy, it changes us. We begin to bear fruit and produce good works—not to earn His love, but because we’ve been transformed by it.

When we let His mercy flow—washing away our sins through the sacrifice of Christ’s blood—we are changed: completely, utterly, undeniably changed.

I wrote a poem in my latest intercessory poetry book, Everyday Matters: Words of Life, titled “Mercy Flows.”
May we all receive His mercy, let it flow through our lives, and allow it to change us—so that His glory may be seen through our good works.
