God’s Instruction Manual
God didn’t put us on the earth and tell us to make our best guesses and fend for ourselves. He gave us an instruction manual in the form of the Bible. There’s wisdom and instruction for us to live our best lives. It contains letters, paragraphs, sentences, and phrases that show God’s heart for us. A beautiful thing about God’s word is that He speaks to us when we read it while we seek Him. The better we know it, the better we discern God’s will. How do we know when He’s speaking to us?
“… and he looked, and behold, the bush was on fire, yet it was not consumed. So Moses said, “I must turn away [from the flock] and see this great sight—why the bush is not burned up.” When the Lord saw that he turned away [from the flock] to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”

Recognizing His Voice
Do you know that God wants to speak to us, to have a relationship with us? Just like a baby learns the language of its parents by listening to the parents talk, when we read the Bible, we learn His language, His voice. One of my favorite ways that God speaks to me is what I see as the burning bush. When Moses was tending the flocks, he brought them near the mountain of God. God can speak to us as we are working. Moses moved his work close to where God was. As he was there, God subtly caught his attention. This is often how He speaks to us. He grabs our attention, piques our curiosity, and speaks when we turn to Him. The Bible calls it His still small voice.
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Beyond the Elements
Elijah was in danger, running for his life, terrified to the point where he couldn’t take the stress anymore and just wanted to die. He had powerful enemies who wanted to kill him. He went to Mt. Horeb and sought God. As He prayed, many powerful events took place. You would assume they were God, an earthquake, a hurricane-force wind, or a mighty fire, but God doesn’t always speak to us in significant events. When Elijah looked beyond his assumptions of God’s voice, He heard God. It wasn’t in a thunderous, terrifying way, but a peaceful God that speaks to us in a “still, small voice.”
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

Prayer
God, I thank You for speaking to me today, and You care about every little thing or big thing that affects us, every burden of our heart, and our soul in our mind. As I turn away from the things of the Earth, my assumptions of You, and look to You, You will speak to me in Your heavenly way through Your word through the peaceful fruit of Your Spirit. You are mighty, and you have the answers that we seek. You have a divine solution to every earthly problem. I thank You for the fact that as I turn my heart towards You, You will speak and provide the wisdom, direction, and understanding that I need to live the life You have for me. I thank You and praise You in Jesus’ name, amen.
