It’s a simple truth within an overused word that robs the statement of its weight. We throw around the world love so casually. There is no greater love than one who lays down his life for another. Christ did that in many ways. He laid down his royal position in heaven to come to earth and live among flawed humans. Then he chose to lay down his life to go to the cross for no other reason than to pay the price of our entrance into heaven. He paid the total price for our sin so we can have a relationship with a holy God.
No one has greater love [nor stronger commitment] than to lay down his own life for his friends.
John 15:13
To Hell and Back
He saw our sin, shortcomings, selfishness, and every flaw we have. He didn’t die despite those sins, but for them. He literally went to hell and back for us. If anything could have separated his love for us, it would have been in hell, but it didn’t. Next time you feel alone, unloved, and maybe you wonder where God is, think of these truths and consider that he wants you to know his mighty love even more than you want it.
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39
