Praying for Your Prodigal
I was so blessed to pray with a friend about her prodigal loved one this week. It inspired today’s poem and blog. We all have a prodigal loved one. It could be a child, a beloved friend, or a family member. We feel their pain and are concerned about what would happen to their souls if they suddenly passed away. Hell is unbearable pain and torment beyond anything we know on the earth. The thought for us is heart-wrenching. Maybe they know the path to salvation. However, pain, hurt, bitterness, sin, or guilt can keep them from approaching God. The devil can’t snatch them out of God’s loving hands. All he can do is manipulate their pain and twist God’s image in their eyes. So they will walk away. We can use scriptures as an anchor for our prayers. I’ve included a few below.
Scriptural Prayers
-Thank you, God, that nothing will separate them from Your love. Romans 8:31-39
-God, send Your workers into their lives to break up hard ground to plant Your seeds and protect the harvest. Matthew 9:37-38
-I pray that they hear Your voice, God, and do not follow a stranger’s voice. John 10:27-28
-God, please give them Solomon’s wisdom. Give them the eyes to see and a heart to know that life is futile without You. Ecclesiastes 1-2
-I pray, Lord, that they would hunger for and seek wisdom, understanding, knowledge, discernment, and the fear of the Lord. Proverbs 2:2-6
-God, please cause them to choose eternal life, and the enemy won’t snatch them out of Your hands. John 10:28-30
-God, may they truly see and value Your kindness, goodness, patience, and love. I pray that this will lead them to repentance, deliverance, and forgiveness. Romans 2:4
-God, give them a heart like King David’s in Psalm 51.
