We currently live in Texas, and here, rain is news. The saying “When it rains, it pours” may have been invented in Texas. We have those beautiful, soaking rains in the spring, but we often have torrential downpours and dangerous storms. Either way, the rain changes our plans and may cause damage, and no one is exempt. No matter what we all go through, the damage caused by the storms. When we invite God into our lives, He can recycle our trials and devastations.
“…for He makes His sun rise on those who are evil and on those who are good, and makes the rain fall on the righteous [those who are morally upright] and the unrighteous [the unrepentant, those who oppose Him].”
Matthew 5:45
God the Recycler
The tools we have as children of God make all the difference. God doesn’t always take us out of the storm. However, he gives us the power, strength, peace, and joy to endure. I always say he’s a great recycler. He can take our pain, trials, hurt, and even the ashes of devastation and exchange them for something beautiful. I’ve both witnessed and experienced this many times. Nothing we go through is wasted when we are in Him. We can welcome the rain because God makes a difference in our lives.
“… and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy, instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”
Isaiah 61:2
I wrote and published the poem below in my first poetry book, “Everyday Matters.” I have recently reworked it, revamped it, and included it below. May you be blessed on the sunny days, and know you’re not alone in the storms.
