Biblical encouragement for every season of life

Have you ever stumbled upon a little treasure in the Bible? Maybe it’s a verse you’ve read many times before, but this time it lands differently—like there’s a deeper dimension hidden just beneath a familiar scripture. That happened to me today while reading Romans 12.

“Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.  Romans 12:1

Physical Change

This first verse speaks about presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice. Our culture constantly tells us that if we work hard enough on our bodies, our lives will change. And in some ways, it’s true—getting healthier can improve life. But the Bible reveals that lasting, true transformation goes deeper. It’s found in the very next verse.

And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be [a]transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].” Romans 12:2

Transformative Change

The first step toward transformation is to stop letting the world’s values and customs shape us. Instead, we invite God’s will to take root in our hearts and reshape our thoughts. This requires letting go of our old way of thinking and allowing His truth, the scripture to define us. Ephesians 4 reminds us that transformation isn’t just about thinking differently—it’s about becoming a new person entirely.

The greatest treasure we can uncover is the life-changing truth in God’s Word. It’s there, hidden in plain sight, waiting to transform us—not just outwardly, but from the inside out.

“and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.” Ephesians 4:24
