Biblical encouragement for every season of life

Here in Texas, we are still grieving the tremendous loss caused by our recent Hill Country floods. The river rose 26″ in 45 minutes, and it kept rising. It came in the middle of the night when everyone slept. They are still searching for the victims. What do we do when tragedy strikes suddenly, brutally? We run to God, let Him comfort us, and hold to the promise that He will bring us peace.

He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. Psalm 23:2

The River and God’s Promise

The raging river stole innocent lives and wrecked our sense of security. We pray for everyone affected by this tragedy that happened so close. In my life, I’ve noticed that whatever the enemy throws at us, God can counter. I looked up a few scriptures to counter this great tragedy. God promises us peace as a river, that He will lead us beside still waters. After the turmoil and upheaval, the billows of sorrow and even horror, we can come to Him for a peace that passes understanding.

“For Yahweh says, “Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream, and you will nurse. You will be carried on her side, and will be dandled on her knees. As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you. You will be comforted in Jerusalem.” Isaiah 66:12-13

Lord, we come before You and ask that You would guide the rescue teams and the decision makers and that You would supernaturally help them to find the victims. We pray for comfort and healing for these victims and their families, that only You can do. Send Your workers to prove their needs physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Please give them the words to say and the things to do to let them know You are with them. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
